Praying for Lebanon

By SIM International | Lebanon in Middle East

As Lebanon again descends into war, partners and colleagues urge us to join them in lament and intercession for this troubled land. Escalating conflict has killed many hundreds, wounded thousands and displaced hundreds of thousands. While the country is seemingly already on the brink of collapse after multiple crises, many churches are finding practical ways to support their devastated communities.

Our workers in Lebanon are dealing with the situation on a day-to-day basis. They are trusting in God and acting wisely. Please keep them in your prayers.

A colleague shares David’s lament in Psalm 22:2, ‘My God, I cry by day, but you do not answer, and by night, but I find no rest.’

“It's hard to sleep at the moment - and how long have we been praying for peace? Yet in v3 he says ‘You are holy.’ Pray we'll remember God is still God, unchanging and good, whatever evil is around us."

Our friends at Resurrection Church Beirut speak for many offering shelter to displaced people:

  • - Ask God to bring peace and comfort to those displaced from their homes. Through their hardships, may many encounter the love of Christ and be drawn to him.
  • - Lift up our emergency fund efforts to provide relief and pastoral care. Pray the Lord will abundantly provide resources to meet those in physical and spiritual need, and enable our care to open hearts to the message of salvation.
  • - Uphold our community service & medical care team, catering to the urgent situation.
  • - Amid war and uncertainty, may God’s presence be felt in powerful ways, may His peace draw many into relationship with Him, and may our church remain a beacon of light, leading others to become disciples of Christ.

Viewing the wider regional conflict, our sisters & brothers in the region urge us to pray for:

  • - peace, justice, hope & dignity for Palestinians & Israelis and throughout the region
  • - Christians worldwide to courageously raise a call for peace, justice, hope and dignity, humbly engaging in respectful conversation amid differences so churches declare and display Christ in a broken world

Thank you for your prayers.

Several trusted partners have emergency funds to meet physical and spiritual needs.

  • Resurrection Church Beirut  - A vibrant church with a vision to see as many people as possible follow Jesus on the pathway of discipleship, grow in their communities, spread the Gospel in unreached areas, and see churches formed and communities holistically transformed.
  • Thimar - A non-profit ministry seeking to strengthen the witness of the Church in the Arab World through inclusive education, community development, and church discipleship. Thimar's holistic approach combines the demonstration and the proclamation of the gospel.
  • Youth For Christ YFC's vision - as part of the Body of Christ, is to see every young person in every people group in Lebanon has the opportunity to make an informed decision to be a follower of Jesus Christ, be discipled, and become part of a local church.
