Who we are:Bob & Carol Givens are from Pennsylvania. They are graduates of Cairn University and have degrees in Bible/Christian Education. They served with Youth for Christ for 3 1/2 years and pastored Niemond's Independent Church for 7 1/2 years. After working as volunteers with Youth for Understanding, they were moved to become international ambassadors of the King of Kings and Lord of Lords, and joined SIM as cross cultural servants in July of 1985. They continue serving as ROYALLs (Retirees On Yet Another Labor of Love)
What we do:They studied Spanish in Costa Rica over 1986-87. In 1987 the Givens joined a growing church planting team in Cochabamba, Bolivia. They started a mission oriented student exchange program called, Salt and Light and worked with a group of Christian Business men to form a Christians Businessmen's Committee in Cochabamba. They also worked with a developing church plant of La Comunidad Cristiana de Cochabamba. In 1992 the Givens were transferred to Asuncion, Paraguay to help develop a ministry with urban professionals. They continued with the Salt & Light Exchange Ministry, and also helped form the Encuentro Cristiano church. They served as personnel coordinators and Carol helped as acting treasure of the field. They invested a year discipling the believers of the Vida Eterna church in Fernando de La Mora. In 2005 they were asked to help the Iglesia Biblica de Villarrica become a self-sustaining ministry. As more responsibility was transferred to the Paraguayan leaders Bob became the Chaplain of the SIM related school, El Colegio Educativo Internacional. After a home assignment Bob was asked to serve as the Sr. High Bible teacher and Chaplain of Carachipampa Christian School in Cochabamba, Bolivia. Carol taught 7-8 Bible and 7-8 English as well. The last 4 years Bob & Carol served as Appointee Coaches. They shared their years of experience as field missionaries as they helped prepare the next generation of missionaries through their Relationship Development Ministry phase. As coaches and trainers they participated in the process of sending out a new wave of cross cultural servants who headed to some of the most challenging areas of the world. As of Septemebr 1, 2016 they entered the Active Retirement Status and will continue helping prepare new workers in a pastoral role through selected training blocks. They also will be available for assignment as ROYALLs. (Retirees On Yet Another Labor of Love). They have already been asked to help cover for missionaries on the field who heed a break. They will continue traveling from their home base in McAlisterville, PA to the SIM Global Mission Center to help in a pastoral role through upcoming training blocks. They will continue to encourage and nurture new workers through their transition to field service. Bob and Carol have three adult children and seven grandchildren living in different parts of the world.
