Ken & Julie Faulkner
Serving in Niger
From: United States of America
Who we are:We are from Colorado, where we have lived for the last 22 years. Ken was raised on a dairy farm in southern Michigan and Julie grew up in a nearby rural community. We met in high school, and dated for several years after high school. Julie attended Western Michigan University, and graduated with a degree in psychology, which stood her in good stead for working in a variety of mental health and crisis intervention roles. We were married and moved to Colorado in 1993, where we focused on our careers-Ken in manufacturing management and Julie in marketing and administration.
After our first child was born in 1996, Julie scaled back her work to part time from home, and became involved in the local church, ministering first in the junior high youth group. I came to know the Lord in 2000, and began working alongside Julie with the junior highers shortly thereafter. We are grateful to have been part of several wonderful churches. We have continued to work side by side in youth ministry, discipleship, led small groups, and served in other ministries ever since.
Our children are Eli (19), Will (17), Mark (15), and Sabrina (13). Eli is continuing in school at University of Colorado Denver, and Will will graduate high school in 2016.
What we do:The vision of SIM Niger is that by faith we see a church holy and mature in Christ which is transforming Nigerien society and beyond. Our family's vision is to serve the least of these, mobilize others to be sent, and equip the willing. Serving in several roles at Sahel Academy we will be in a discipleship and mentoring role with missionary students whose parents are serving across Africa in hospitals, agricultural programs, outreach, and church planting. We have been able to develop relationships with our neighbors and have found an excellent local church home. While our work at Sahel as teachers, administrators and youth leaders is our primary roles we have had the opportunity to work with local churches and other missionaries in ministry outreach programs in Niamey and surrounding villages. I believe God has gifted us with each other, a love of the Lord, and a desire to be a part of God's plan. Thanks for your prayers!
