Beauty for Ashes Home (98661)

young women

Many young women arrive in this Indian city without connections, friends or enough means to support themselves. They become easy prey for sex trafficking, rape, forced labor, domestic violence, and other forms of gender-based exploitation.

The Beauty for Ashes Restoration Home provides a safe and healing haven for young women who've been trapped in situations like these. Some are survivors of trafficking and have ongoing court cases against their perpetrators. Each woman's story, length of stay and healing journey varies, but for the Beauty for Ashes staff, the commitment is long-term.

The vision of the Beauty for Ashes Home is to see young women who have been exploited, ages 18 years and older, to come to understand that they are beautiful and priceless, to see them move into their future with hope and new life!

We seek to provide a safe, loving, godly community through which we can:

  • Come alongside each individual to help them recover from traumas and find healing, according to their unique situation
  • Support them in the process of withdrawal from addictions
  • Mentor and equip them to take positive steps of change in their own lives and also show them how to bless others through community involvement and peer-to-peer counseling
  • Help them to begin dreaming and hoping for their future, supporting them on their journey to discover who they are
  • Provide options for each one to complete their education and obtain formal certification Identify suitable training programs (nursing, teacher's training, etc) and to find employment opportunities as they move towards financial independence
  • During times of study or training elsewhere, continue to provide support, mentorship and connection with the Home to help the women in their growth
  • Facilitate and support restoration of the women with their families when this relationship is broken

young women

We desire to teach our women to give back to the community and reach out to others. Therefore we look to establish peer-to-peer support groups where the women reach out, support, model recovery and share their experiences with other young women. This will serve to build awareness and support networks as well as prevent future cycles of vulnerability and abuse.

History: Beauty for Ashes opened in 2005. Over the years, we have had the privilege of seeing lives changed! We have celebrated many birthdays, two weddings and several births, both in the home and in the new families. It's not just the young women who are challenged and shaped; we too have learnt and received so much from being in the Home.

The current capacity of the Home is 12 young women. In the coming three years, we hope to receive more girls as the need is great. Currently two full-time caregivers live in the home, with the hope to add more in the coming year.

Financial assistance will be put towards expenses such as rent, food, caregivers' salaries as well as to more specific needs such as training programmes, schooling and medical care for the girls.

An important part of what we do is to find suitable vocational training programmes for the women according to their capacity and dreams. By doing this, each woman can create a meaningful occupation, support themselves with dignity, and grow in confidence.

Currently, one of our girls is in her second year at nursing college. She got a sponsorship for her three-year course and it is a great joy seeing her growing up and doing well in her studies. We attended her capping ceremony and oh, so proud we were to see her there in her nursing uniform!

Another one of our young women wants to pursue nursing and so while she is studying for her Class 12 school certificate, she will start volunteering with a local hospital.

God has given us an important work to see women receive "Beauty for Ashes" and come into their fullness of life in Him. Please prayerfully consider sending a gift to SIM today. Your response will mean healing, hope and new life for young women who have suffered unimaginable abuse. Please contact your nearest SIM office or give online to project 98661. Thank you!

To all who mourn in Israel, he will give a crown of beauty for ashes, a joyous blessing instead of mourning, festive praise instead of despair.
Isaiah 61:3

Some of the young women at Beauty for Ashes have been referred here from Redlight-Greenlight aftercare home for minors. When young women come of age but are not ready to live independently, Beauty for Ashes home provides a nurturing setting for them to take additional steps in their recovery before living on their own.
