Spiritual Life Training for Sudan Team (98022)

This project provides the opportunity for the entire SIM Sudan team to come together once annually for spiritual renewal, rest and refreshment.

The team includes missionaries from many nations such as Ethiopia, India, and Nigeria as well as Western nations. Conditions for all of them are harsh—hot weather, rudimentary infrastructure, no roads, expensive air travel and plenty of isolation. They typically live in tents or in thatched ”tukels” with mud walls. Water supply and cooking is primitive. Snakes, scorpions and AK47s abound. Yet once a year this team draws together and for just a few days ministry is focused towards them and their walk with the Lord.

In April 2011 the SIM Sudan team came together at a retreat location in Kenya for the fifth annual Spiritual Life Conference. In attendance were 44 missionaries and staff, 13 children, and 7 guests. Each person was blessed by spending time together and sharing what God is doing in different corners of Sudan.

Leigh and Irene Robinson come from South Africa to share from God’s Word, encourage our hearts, pray for us, and meet with people one-on-one. We were also blessed that a partner church in Tennessee came for the second year in a row to lead us in worship and run a fantastic children’s program. This allowed parents to give their full attention to the sessions, knowing that their children were having a great time and getting the same spiritual nourishment that they needed.

By the end of our five days together we all were blessed and looking forward to our return to the field, serving the Lord out of an overflow of what He’d accomplished in us during our time together.

For the first time since we have begun having a Spiritual Life Conference, our Nairobi and Loki office staff attended the entire event as an integral part of our TEAM. Not only were we blessed by their enthusiasm, presence, and personalities but they also expressed how much it meant to be with us. One member of the logistics team wrote that the opportunity to “bond” with our SIM members outside of the office was a blessing to him… that he now really feels that he is “part of the SIM team.”

As a community of people serving in bases scattered across one of the most challenging countries on the globe, it was a huge blessing to all of us to have our FULL team in attendance at the conference—and it’s only through the donations of outsiders and of our missionaries that we have the resources to make this happen. Thank you!

If you would like to donate to the Spiritual Life Training fund for the Sudan team, please contact your nearest SIM office or give online to project 98022. Thank you and God bless!
