Spring of Life Egbe (96407)
HIV testing

Spring of Life Counseling Center is an arm of Spring of Life ECWA, Jos. It is a Christian non-governmental agency (NGO) established in 2007 by SIM (Serving in Missions). It has been managed by Pastor Taiye Alabi since 2008. The Center is registered with the Social Welfare Department of Yagba West Local Government, Kogi State. It is one of the approved sites by National Agency for Control of Aids (NACA) for Antiretroviral therapy (ART). The Center partners with agencies such as Hope Alive, and is a regular participant in World Aids Day and ECWA Annual Conferences.

Vision

Spring of Life offers voluntary counseling and testing at the centre in Egbe and in village outreaches. For those infected with HIV, follow-up counseling continues after they have been discharged from hospital.

Under the Home-Based Care program, trained volunteers come and keep the discharged patients "comfortable." They also help educate and model some basic caring practices. The volunteers encourage the caregivers to care for their loved ones without fear by taking a few simple precautions.

Spring of Life Egbe also plans to hold a Support Club for those with HIV and AIDS. It will be a forum for learning to live positively with the HIV virus. The activities include testimonies, sharing, praying and singing together, health seminars, income generation talks and advocacy.

Services to the Region

Throughout the period 2011-2015, 12,987 people were tested and counseled. 146 males and 289 females tested positive in the region. Forty one outreaches were conducted in schools, market places, community gatherings and at ECWA conferences.

Pray

  • That our Heavenly Father would move Christians in Egbe to treat persons affected by HIV and AIDS with compassion and the love of our Lord Jesus Christ.
  • That God would rise up local and federal government support for this ministry.
  • That God would lead us to partnerships with US and Nigerian NGOs.

Funding

The Center relies solely on donations from private donors. As an approved SIM project (#96407), funds received from donors are distributed through SIM Nigeria to the center. Fiscal accountability is maintained through monthly reports. Governmental assistance is offered through the provision of ARV drugs and some equipment provided by the Center for Integrated Health Projects (CIHP).

Give

Your financial partnership will empower this ministry to continue giving a Christian response to HIV and AIDS. This project pays two Nigerian staff and supports the ministries of the Centre.

  • USD $35 will fund one year of monthly home-based care visits to one client.
  • USD $50 will fund one village outreach.
  • USD $250 will fund rice and beans for 60 HIV patients
