Textbooks for Amharic Bible Schools (92931)
The Ethiopian Kale Heywot church (EKHC) is the largest evangelical church in Ethiopia with over 7,500 local congregations. Since its beginning, the EKHC has given strong emphasis to teaching the Scriptures. Bible schools are part of the life and history of the EKHC.
Until now the Bible schools have used mostly textbooks translated from English. Both SIM and EKHC believe the time has arrived for Ethiopian scholars to author textbooks that are more contextualized, especially in subjects where the Ethiopian context is unique. This will help to assure the appropriateness and quality of the education offered by the more than 150 Amharic Bible schools. It will also give a fresh opportunity for the Church to reflect the truths and applications that the Spirit of God has been teaching it. SIM Ethiopia has agreed to partner with EKHC in publishing texts on subjects such as Hermeneutics, Leadership, Communication, Poverty & Development, and Muslim Evangelism.
Textbooks for the following subjects are near completion:
As they move into the final editing and proofreading stages, funds are being sought to print 2000 copies of each textbook. About one third of these will go into the libraries of 150 Amharic Bible Schools. The remainder will be sold to students who can afford to purchase them, and the income will be used to fund future reprints.
