Student Evangelistic Center Niamey (88960)
Two students using computer lab

The Evangelical Student Center in Niamey was founded to serve students studying at the public university in Niamey, as well as those who study at private institutes or work as professionals here in the nation's capital. The mission of the center is to be a gospel witness to students by developing relationships and offering academic services, as well as biblical resources.

The center is located a short drive away from the university campus. The courtyard is often lined with students' motorcycles as they arrive for classes, make use of the quiet study space, or reference books from our academic library. The center regularly offers computer courses in Word, Excel, Power Point and Internet research, as well as English classes and a cooking class. The academic library provides a valuable resource for students in a place where textbooks are normally not available or affordable for each individual.

A Source for Academic and Christian Resources

This strategic outreach gives an exciting opportunity to reach future leaders from all regions of Niger, as well as neighboring countries in West Africa. Here, students from many different people groups study in a French-speaking setting, allowing us to impact people from numerous villages and cities in a season of life when they are open to discuss new ideas. The relationships formed at the center often develop into friendships that provide opportunities to share the good news and study the Bible together.

This project, founded by SIM missionaries, is now directed by a Nigerien pastor in an example of effective partnership between SIM workers and our national church partners. Director Issa Abdou has a vision for a student center that has a transformative impact on the students who attend, as well as on the community.

A gift of USD $30 would allow us to add an important book to our library to educate future African leaders, and larger gifts allow us to make plans to expand our classroom space and resources to accommodate more students.

Pray

Your prayers for this ministry will make a difference. Please pray for God to meet the financial needs of the student center and for the leadership as they seek to be more financially independent. Finally, pray for the students who visit the center to be changed by the love of Christ.

Give

Because Niger is the poorest country in the world (UN Index 2006), and the church in Niamey is small with limited resources, this strategic project is still almost completely dependent on foreign financial support.

You can demonstrate the love of Christ to Niger's future leaders through your investment in this project. One month's rent is approximately USD $200. For USD $32, you can purchase one month's periodicals, or for USD $60, you can add two books to the academic library.

Thank you for your partnership in this project!
