Danja Center for Health, Leprosy and Fistula (86775)
The Danja Center for Health, Leprosy & Fistula is a Christian health center meeting the holistic needs of patients and communities through compassionate quality care and building the capacity of staff to the glory of God.
This general purpose health center sees nearly 50,000 patients annually in the walk-in clinic and specializes in the the treatment of leprosy and obstetric fistula. Danja has 70 beds for mainly leprosy patients though other patients are cared for as well. The only surgeries done are in the new obstetric fistula center which opened in February 2012 which has an additional 42 beds. Danja Center for Health, Leprosy and Fistula draws patients from the immediate area and further afield. Its vision is to minister to the whole person as exemplified in the life of Jesus who "preached, healed, and taught." (Matt. 4:23)
Both the fistula and leprosy work have developed to include rehabilitative training.
CSL Danja co-operates with local partner churches to evangelise the population in its immediate area. Each day the gospel is presented by local evangelists who minister to the patients in the wards and observation room as well as to patients in the dispensary. The Jesus video is shown daily to patients in the dispensary while waiting to be examined by the medical staff.
UPDATE: From October 2012 to April 2013, 9,246 patients received help in the dispensary. The number of patients is down due to the conclusion of the malaria season in October and the fact that we did not have a resident physician for five months. Dr. Marc Batumike from Democratic Republic of Congo joins Danja CHLF in May 2013. The Center provided long term care for 156 people affected by leprosy in the hospital, and 59 cases of leprosy were diagnosed.
