The Yucra family lives across the street from us here in Cochabamba, Bolivia. Some of their children have attended church with us for a couple of years, but the father, Guido, has never shown interest in spiritual matters.
One day a few months ago, as Guido was digging near a tall adobe wall at work, the wall collapsed, leaving him with a badly fractured ankle. He needed surgery order to insert some screws to hold his ankle together. Because Guido's family is poor and lives in a makeshift shack with a tarp for a roof, we arranged for his surgery. Once he returned home from the hospital, Guido's attitude changed completely. He eagerly agreed with my suggestion to meet daily to assist me in studying Quechua and to study the Bible together. It wasn't long before Guido placed his faith in Christ. He now attends church with us.
Why did God allow this accident to take away his health and job? Guido sees that God wanted to give him something of much greater value—a new life. Guido is continuing to study the Bible with me weekly.
