Officially, Your Luggage Has Never Been Here

  Empty baggage claim

On my way back from a quick trip to the U.S., I had a three-hour layover in Morocco, so I took the opportunity to look for a piece of luggage that had been missing for six months and was rumored to be in Casablanca. It contained supplies for the hospital and solar-powered MP3 players with "God’s Story" in three languages. These were destined for some of our local evangelists.

After multiple false leads, several hours of wandering inside and outside of the airport looking for the "Central Warehouse," I found myself in front of someone who might actually know where this bag was. "What does your bag look like?"

"It's not my bag, but I have the claim check. It’s red, soft side, rolling, and nondescript."

After checking the computer, the clerk informed me that “officially” the bag had never been to Casablanca, but I was welcome to look for it. He opened up a room, and I found myself in front of thousands of suitcases of every size, shape, and color, piled floor-to-ceiling in this warehouse of lost luggage. I checked the first burgundy soft side I found, only to be disappointed that it was labeled in Arabic and contained mostly clothes. However, the second bag I selected immediately spilled out some medications I recognized. The claim number was identical to the one I held in my hand, except for one small detail. It was off by one number.

Six months of waiting, two hours of looking for the warehouse, and two minutes to actually find the bag amidst the thousands of other lost bags. The clerk said to me, "You’re very lucky!" Luck had nothing to do with it. We had been praying for this bag for six months, and God answered in a very specific way! We are continuing to pray that the MP3 players will be used to proclaim his story and his glory here in Niger.
