New Church Planting Opportunities in Thailand
3 July 2007
Through its partnership with OMF Thailand, God has given SIM new opportunities to serve the people of Northeast Thailand. In addition to serving in the administration of the SIM Central and Southeast Asia (C-SEA) region, SIM missionaries in Thailand will have the opportunity to be involved in the church planting work in partnership with OMF. "This partnership allows SIM to feel the burden of Thailand’s unreached in a way that we have not been able to do before," says Elvira Warkentin, of SIM C-SEA. Less than one percent of Thais are Christians. They are largely influenced by Buddhism, and several large districts in the rural areas of Thailand have no churches at all. The people in the northeastern province of Isaan live in small villages and are rice farmers. With poor rainfall, they are pressured to make a living for themselves. Many of the older generation never had an opportunity to receive formal education, and even today many rural children do not adequately complete their education through ninth grade. In several districts of Isaan with a population of 70,000 people, there is no church. GoSIM is looking for people willing to live with the people of Isaan to share the Gospel of Christ and help plant self-multiplying house churches. Working in partnership with other OMF Thailand teammates, you would spend one year learning Thai language before moving to the rural area to begin ministry. Learn more about this opportunity |
