conference in January 2008.

The missionary medical team at the SIM base in Doro, southern Sudan, consists of six nurses, one Physician’s Assistant, a missionary doctor, and a Sudanese doctor who has recently joined the team!

Dr Angelina Minyiel has completed her medical internship at Kijabe Hospital in Kenya and is committed to working with SIM-Sudan for the next 2 years. She will be doing clinical work alongside the SIM doctor at the Primary Health Care Clinic in Doro, where SIM is starting inpatient and outpatient clinical health care.

Many aspects of the health ministry are well underway:

Community Health Worker Training School

The first group of Sudanese health workers have begun a 9-month intensive training course at Doro which will qualify them to run a Primary Health Care Unit. These primary health care units will be set up in various locations in the rural areas where SIM works. The eleven health workers are from different locations in southern Sudan as well as different ethnic backgrounds.

Nutritional Village

Grace Womack is ministering full-time with malnourished children and their mothers. SIM intends to develop a small “nutritional village” with a collection of huts built around a kitchen teaching area. The huts will house mothers & their children for some weeks while the mothers receive health & nutrition instruction on how to better care for their children.

Community Midwifery Training

Community birth attendants are commonly used throughout southern Sudan. Vicki Beattie & Irene Masters are training 13 Sudanese women in midwifery skills.
