Maninka Audio Media Outreach Producing New Bible Recordings
by Mark Wilson, Guinea
28 July 2008
The Maninka Audio Media Outreach project (MAMO) is reaching the Maninka people of Guinea by producing dramatic recordings of Bible stories. This is a effective tool to communicate God's word in the oral Maninka culture. Recently, project manager Mark Wilson and his staff have produced the book of Ruth. A draft recording of Jonah is also in the hands of volunteers who are giving feedback. Even though Ruth is a short book, it had a cast of 11 different Maninka speakers. Each part was read aloud in short phrases for the speaker to repeat back into the microphone. In addition to allowing non-literate speakers to play the parts, this method yields a more dramatic recording and keeps it from sounding as if it is being read. Future plans for MAMO include recordings of 1 and 2 Thessalonians and Exodus, a new introduction and conclusion for the JESUS film in Maninka, and the translation from French and recording of a 100-lesson radio series called "The Way of Righteousness."
