Gone began attending the Life Skills class I started a few weeks ago. She helped us scrub down and paint the room where we meet during two clean-up days, and has been attending worship with us on Sundays. This is the third year that she has attended a camp run by a church team that comes each year from the USA.
Yesterday, she came up to me after the camp was over and asked if it was “too late or not to receive Him into her life?” She asked this because the worship time was already over.
I joyfully told her it wasn’t too late, and I got to pray with her as she told Jesus that she wanted to follow him. About an hour later, while we were preparing to go to the location where thirteen teens and children were going to be baptized, Gone came up to me again, asking if she could also be baptized. She was ready to proclaim her decision to the world!
After I questioned whether her parents knew about her new decision to follow Christ, her reply was, “Molly, I asked what they would think if I chose to follow Christ before I even started coming to your classes a few weeks ago.” She had already prepared the way for her decision yesterday.
Gone stays with her mother’s friend because her parents live and work in a different province. But they told her over the phone several weeks ago that she had the freedom to choose whatever she wanted to believe in.
Yesterday was a first for me—to be able to lead Gone to Christ as well as assist in baptizing her all within one wonderful day. I praise God for Gone’s boldness and her parents’ openness in allowing her to make a choice herself.
When I asked Gone why she wanted to follow Christ, she said, “Molly, I have seen God do so many miracles. How can I deny or refuse Him?!”
