A large crowd gathered for the "Friends of Fréquence Vie" event.

Fréquence Vie, the FM radio station in Abidjan, Côte d’Ivoire, is extending its reach beyond the airwaves by sponsoring events in the community. In mid-January, they invited the “friends of Fréquence Vie” to a special gathering to show appreciation for their prayer, moral, and financial support. This group of people represents the most faithful donors the radio has at this time, as their financial contributions in 2007 came to more money than even the amount given by the churches that are “official” members of Fréquence Vie.

About 400 people attended this event, and they were treated free of charge to a short concert by a number of well-known Christian singers. The radio staff was present so that listeners could meet the people they often hear on the air. Several listeners gave testimonies as to how the radio had helped them in their Christian growth.

The Concert of Peace

Fréquence Viealso sponsored a large concert in early March. Called the “concert of peace,” two Christian singers were spotlighted. One was a well-known singer from Côte d’Ivoire, while the other was a lesser-known singer from eastern Africa. Over 4,000 people attended the concert, and several pastors were invited to attend free of charge, including the two prominent pastors who tried to sue Fréquence Vie in 2006. It was a significant gesture of forgiveness on the part of the radio director, Dieudonné Ngumbi.

Expanding Ministry

Fréquence Vie is working on plans to expand their broadcast coverage across the country. The radio director met recently with the manager of the national Ivorian radio station, which already has extensive broadcasts covering the whole country. Soon, he will present two proposals to our technical committee as to how they can participate with the national radio in getting their signal country-wide.
