Finding Life at the Student Centre
1 June 2005
Zaku is a young man who lives in Niamey, Niger. Three years ago, his little brother found a Bible in the trash. Since he couldn’t read, he gave it to Zaku, who read it from beginning to end, then read the New Testament three times, and finally returned to Genesis. Last year he was walking with a friend, and as they passed the Student Evangelistic Centre, his friend said, “They’re holding a question and answer session there tonight.” The friend refused to go inside, but Zaku stopped to listen. After the session, he approached Scott and asked, “What do I need to do to be baptized? I want to be a Christian!” Scott and Zaku began to study the Bible together, and within a few days Zaku completed twenty Bible lessons, getting all the answers correct and memorizing Bible verses. Scott has never known such a quick learner, such an eager student of the Bible. The question and answer evenings became a regular part of the Student Centre outreach. Once someone submitted four pages of rather hostile questions, but by the end of the evening (after midnight) the group parted with laughter and handshakes. Questions continue to pour in, all non-threatening. At the first anniversary celebration, Roland gave his life to Christ. Now he’s one of the volunteers. Ibrahima came for computer classes and overheard a conversation among some missionaries. After receiving answers to his questions, he gave his life to Christ that same night. The Centre is open five mornings and five evenings every week. Three workers from overseas and seven local volunteers make it happen. The guests come for various reasons: to use the computers, to read in the Academic Library, to use the Christian Library, or to watch a Christian video. Learn more at the Centre's website. GiveProject #88960 supports the Niamey Student Centre. GoFull-time student workers are needed in Niger and around the world. |
