Call to Prayer and Fasting for Syria
16 September 2013

"I want to thank all who joined us in prayer and fasting for Syria on Sunday, September 15. James 5:16 assures us that the prayers of the righteous are powerful and effective, and so we believe by faith that great things were accomplished because of our obedience in prayer. May the God of all comfort and peace protect the people of Syria and his church there, and may we see Christ glorified even in the midst of suffering. Please do not stop praying, but let us continue what we have begun in bringing this nation before God." - SIM International Director Joshua Bogunjoko

Please join us in a Day of Prayer and Fasting for Syria on Sunday, September 15.

SIM International Director Joshua Bogunjoko writes,

"Please join me in participating in and calling for a day of prayer for Syria and the Middle East. Let us lay aside the day of Sunday, September 15, and lay hold of God for these lands. If you feel free to fast and pray -- please do so for that is a very biblical thing to do. Who knows but that God could act in what seems to us an insoluble problem."

Horrific violence and suffering have been leveled at the Syrian people for two and a half years. More than 100,000 people have lost their lives and 2 million refugees have fled. The release of chemical weapons in August 2013 killed more than 1000 civilians, many of whom were children.

PRAY

  • above all, for peace; may the Prince of Peace bring a swift end to this calamity
  • for Syrian children; for emotional, psychological and physical protection for the youngest and most vulnerable members of society as they witness very disturbing events
  • for the Syrian church to be refreshed and encouraged amidst this trial; for their safety and protection, and that their witness for Christ would be effective
  • for refugee populations to find safe havens among their hosts in neighboring countries; for healing and a return to their homes
  • that the nations' leaders will humble themselves and seek wisdom from the Lord
  • that God will use the negotiation of the nations to bring a peaceful solution
  • that God's people would be faithful in prayer
