FAQ's for the Basic Education Learning Centers South Sudan Project:
- How will you handle the variety of languages, and what about curriculum?
- The government of South Sudan actually prefers that we work in English.
- We'll use the curriculum already approved by the Ministry of Education for South Sudan.
- How much will it cost?
- Total project is approximately USD $1,580,000.
- Of that, the African churches that send their people to be teacher trainers will contribute USD $180,000.
- The remaining need is USD $1.4 million.
- Isn't that a lot of money? Yes, until you break it down in one of the following ways:
- 50 teacher trainer/evangelists at about $10,000 per year , or
- 25 centers at about $20,000 per year per center, or
- 750 student teachers at about $600 per year
- What does that cover?
- Expenses of building and equipping the training center where Sudanese teacher will be trained
- Each trainer's travel (annual leave) and other expenses not covered by their sending churches
- Logistical support and supplies for the trainer teams
- Administrative costs at the mission level
- How can we be involved?
- Churches can embrace a training center. You may be able to establish a relationship with the African church that sends a teacher trainer to that center.
- Individuals or churches can sponsor one teacher trainer at $10,000 per year for 3 years. Or ten individuals (for example, teachers) could join in an informal consortium to sponsor one trainer, each contributing $1,000 per year.
- Schools or classrooms can conduct fund raisers to sponsor one Sudanese student teacher at $600 per year.
- Most important, we seek prayer partners. Please send your e-mail address to rebuildsudan@simsudan.org if you're willing to receive and pray for prayer requests as they come up, possibly one request each week.
