During the Seize the Day process, a number of ethos issues emerged. They are part of SIM and have been vital in shaping the organization over its history, but they deserve special mention again at this time of change.
By Prayer and dependence on God every person in SIM is called to:
A deep commitment to God and His world
Passion for God and His glory and a compassionate commitment to a broken and hurting world and to prayer are foundational to all we are and do.
Godly character
Skill, experience and hard work are no substitute for godly character. Humility, grace and trust display true Christian servanthood.
Sacrificial service and a simpler lifestyle
Ultimately, we are to follow Christ, even unto death. The challenge is to commit ourselves to serve the Lord whatever the cost.
Global thinking
Our question should be, “What is best for the Kingdom? What would be of greatest value for the church worldwide? How does my part of the picture fit with the rest?” God’s heart is for the whole world; the same should be true of us as well.
Courageous initiative and creativity
Creativity and initiative are gifts from God. Taking risks and making hard decisions for the sake of the gospel may take us closer to ‘”he edge” and can be a wonderful stimulus to faith.
Voluntary sharing and learning
Sharing our knowledge and experience with others and being willing to learn from them should be a conscious priority.
A life of discipleship
Discipling and being discipled are essential to our spiritual growth and mission.
Trust relationships
Ministry is a privilege, not a job, and grows out of personal relationships and trust.
Equipping others
In all we do, we equip people for Christlike life and service.
