Stranded or Planted?
20 May 2005
When a colleague from Radio Espoir (Radio Hope) in the capital city of Niamey, Niger was stranded alone "out in the bush" because his car stalled, he abandoned his car and trudged across the hot sand to a nearby village, desperate for help. To his immense surprise, when he arrived in the village, he discovered that Radio Espoir beams its message to many villages beyond Niamey, including this one.

When the people learned who he was, they eagerly told him they had all been listening to the radio station broadcasts. When they finished patching his car, they begged him to come back and explain this "Way of Righteousness" they had heard on the radio. His heart soared as his car sputtered back to Niamey, amazed that God literally led him to a village searching for the truth about Jesus. What evidence of God's work in the remote villages of Niger, even though the kingdom of darkness presses all around!

According to custom, when the colleague returned to the village with a pastor who spoke their language, they visited first with the chieftain who sat in front of the village mosque, but he wasn't interested in what they told him about Jesus.

Please pray

  • for knowledge of how to follow through with the people's requests.
  • that Radio Espoir will receive the support it needs to continue to broadcast. One leader is now using his personal retirement savings to sustain the radio's running costs of $1,000 a month.
  • that a way will open up to share more of the "The Way" with the villagers.
