"God's Story"
by Sjoerd and Rachel Howarth
24 March 2009

The sun had set and darkness quickly descended over the Sahel. In the light of the full moon, children could be seen, eagerly waiting for the men to return from their prayers. Tonight was film night. For many, it would be the first time that they had ever watched anything other than stars at night, and for all of them, the first time that they had heard "God’s story."

The chief of the village returned from praying and gave permission for the film to begin. However, after only a couple of minutes he asked us to stop—he wanted us to wait while he called the women to come and watch as well! It was such a joy for us to sit there among the Fulani and share with them the greatest story of all time.

Over the past few weeks "God's story" has been shown in several villages in Niger. We are also hearing good reports from colleagues in Burkina Faso and Benin, where DVD's have also been sent. Audio tapes have also been copied and are now being distributed far and wide. God's story among the Fulani of West Niger is only just beginning!

Pray

  • That God might use this film to reach many Fulani with the gospel.
  • That our colleagues and ourselves will have wisdom as we seek the best way of showing the film and following up with those who are interested in Jesus.
  • That we will see churches planted among the Fulani and long-lasting effects of faith in Christ.
  • That the new sermon "What do you think of Jesus?" will cause many Fulani to consider who Jesus really is.
  • For the completion and effectiveness of the "Way of Righteousness" radio broadcast series.
